You’re Not Seeing Before-and-After Photos Anymore? Here’s Why

If you’ve been scrolling through aesthetic clinic websites or social media lately, you might have noticed something different . Fewer before-and-after photos. It’s not a coincidence. In fact, this change is intentional and driven by new guidelines for cosmetic procedures introduced by the Medical Board of Australia.

These changes are a step in the right direction for Aphrodite's Gift. They’re not just about advertising rules ,  they’re about protecting patients, promoting honest communication, and making sure cosmetic procedures are approached with care and transparency.

What’s Changed?

As of September 2, 2025, new guidelines were introduced to regulate how cosmetic procedures are advertised and performed. These guidelines are designed to ensure that patients have accurate expectations, are protected from misleading claims, and are supported in making informed decisions.

One significant change is how before-and-after images can be used in advertising. These changes mean that before-and-after photos are no longer the standard marketing tool they once were.

Why Before-and-After Photos Are Now Restricted

Under the new guidelines, before-and-after photos must:

  • Be authentic and taken by the practitioner performing the procedure.

  • Avoid exaggerating results or creating unrealistic expectations.

  • Not use the "after" photo as the most prominent image, to prevent glamorizing procedures.

This change ensures advertising reflects reality rather than creating pressure or false expectations. Cosmetic procedures are highly individual  and results vary based on each person’s unique anatomy, health, and goals. Before-and-after photos alone cannot capture the full story.

Stronger Protections for Patients

The new guidelines also introduce important safeguards, especially for younger people. For example:

  • Cooling-off period: People under 18 must now wait at least seven days between consultation and procedure.

  • Advertising restrictions: No advertising targeting under-18s.

These rules are designed to protect vulnerable individuals and ensure cosmetic procedures are approached responsibly.
